An Intro to DML 360 | by Paul Gentilini

I remember growing up, learning piano at a the age of five. I loved playing and making sound. I especially enjoyed the duet of song Heart & Soul.

Then, my first teacher began teaching me to read music & introducing the classical method. Reading was hard work. Where was the music? Where was the fun? Even as a kid practicing my scales, I began to create and experiment with melodies with each given exercise – just to keep it fun! I had to. I couldn’t let music become only work. And yes, work is important and we need discipline to become skilled at anything. But what was my teacher helping me become? Another Beethoven?

Danby Music Lessons’ curriculum had to be different. It has to have balance, I thought.

The classical style focuses mainly on playing other people’s music. But what if I want to be the composer? Even from an early age, I have loved creating & expressing myself through music – getting immersed in the feeling and the sounds of it all!

As the owner and founder of Danby Music Lessons, I had to switch it up. And yes, we do teach classical as well as contemporary methods. However, our very own DML 360 is an exclusive and unique curriculum to build each student’s skill set with a full range of five valuable tools:

  1. Playing (other people’s) music
  2. Creating music or self expression.
  3. Learning the skill of listening.
  4. Playing with others.
  5. Performing.

We want the best for every student. We believe with DML 360, every student can become what they already are…extraordinary!

Thanks for reading!
